In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a second fire broke out in an industrial building in Round Lake. It took firefighters about two hours to put it out and caused more than $150,000 in damage.

The Great Round Lake Fire District responded to Northern Insulation, Inc. located at 702 Magna Drive in Round Lake at 12:29 am on Tuesday, requesting the automatic activation of the fire alarm.

Anthony Carraro, battalion commander of the Great Round Lake Fire District, said that when emergency rescuers arrived, they found smoke from the building.

Carraro said that the sprinkler system was also activated, indicating that the working structure was on fire.

According to their website, Northern Insulation, Inc. specializes in various types of building insulation for residential and commercial buildings.

The call was escalated, and firefighters from the Round Lake, Fox Lake, Grayslake and Wauconda fire departments responded.

Carraro said that the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was subsequently activated to the second level of alarm, causing 13 other fire departments to rush to the scene.

The firemen deployed multiple hoses to extinguish the fire. Seven nozzles help control the fire.

Carraro said the fire involved industrial chemicals stored in a truck inside the building.

Firefighters also use propeller-driven motorboats to help expel the smoke.

It was announced that the fire was under control at around 2 in the morning, and firefighters stayed at the scene until 5:30 in the morning

When the fire broke out, the shop was closed and unoccupied. Carraro said there were no reports of injuries.

Carraro praised the company's sprinkler system and fire alarm system for keeping the fire under control until the firefighters were able to extinguish it.

The loss is estimated to be more than $150,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Carraro added that a total of eight fire trucks, three ladder trucks, four ambulances, six commanders and four fire investigators were present to respond.

The Great Circle Fire District is assisted by the Fox Lake, Grayslake, Wauconda, Countryside, Gurnee, Spring Grove, Mundelein, Newport Township, Lake Villa, Salem, Libertyville, Richmond and Antioch fire departments.
